Daniel 1 shows the life of a young Hebrew captive forced into slavery in a foreign land. It is possible and it is powerful to be faithful in the midst of suffering. Daniel takes a stand and puts a stake in the ground to say, “This diet will be a reminder to us that whatever comes our way, in spite of everything else being taken away from us, God is still in control.”
