Trusting God in Times of Crisis - Drew Myers

VERSES TO READ:

  • Jeremiah 29:11
  • Romans 8:28
  • Psalm 27:14
  • Psalm 103:19

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:

  1. Is there an area in your life where you need to trust God more fully?

  2. What are some actionable steps you can take to remind yourself that God has a plan and a purpose for your future?

PRAYER TO PRAY:

Father, thank You for Your faithfulness in every season of life. When we face loss, uncertainty, and fear, remind us that You are already working behind the scenes. Help us to trust in Your plans, knowing that nothing surprises You. Thank You that You are a God who provides, who guides, and who loves us with an everlasting love. We place our hopes and our future in Your hands. Strengthen our hearts as we wait on Your perfect timing, and may we always remember that You are in control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

When I heard the words “you no longer work here” on August 3, 2023, I felt overwhelmed by uncertainty. In that moment, 10 years of work felt like it had been wasted. The weight of the loss pressed heavily on me—my mind flooded with questions about the future, worries about finances, and fears about my identity and purpose. I felt like a failure. I remember, at that moment, I had a choice to make: give up or trust in God.

Perhaps you’ve faced a similar situation or are going through something else that has shaken your sense of security. In those moments of crisis, it’s easy to become anxious and to feel like everything is falling apart. But even amid hardship, we can take comfort in the unchanging truth that nothing surprises God. He is not caught off guard by the events of our lives. In fact, God is already working behind the scenes for our good, even when we can’t yet see it.

When I lost my job, I had no idea what would come next. I had to remind myself of His promises. I had to trust that His plan was bigger than my immediate circumstances. As the days passed, God’s peace began to settle in. Over time, I saw God’s faithfulness unfold in ways I could never have predicted. Just a week later, I received an incredible job offer–the opportunity I had prayed for—to be able to work with people who shared my passion for Jesus. I had to pause and reflect on how God had guided me, opened doors I never expected, and provided in ways that only He could. This experience reaffirmed that God’s timing and His plan are always perfect. “He works everything together for our good,” even when we don’t understand how. In times of crisis, it’s easy to focus on what’s going wrong. But the truth is, God’s faithfulness doesn’t depend on our circumstances. It depends on His unchanging nature. He is always faithful, even when we can’t yet see the end of the story.

Consider these truths:

  1. God is in control (Psalm 103:19) – God reigns over every situation, and nothing happens outside of His will. Even in moments of uncertainty, He is at work.

  2. God has a plan for you (Jeremiah 29:11) – This promise is not just for the people of Israel; it’s for you, too. God’s plans are good, and they are always designed for your ultimate benefit, even if you can’t see it yet.

  3. God works in all things for our good (Romans 8:28) – The job loss, the struggle, the waiting, God can use it all for His glory and your growth.

One of the hardest parts of trusting God during a crisis is waiting. We want answers, we want solutions, and we want them now. But God’s timing is always perfect. It may not match our timeline, but His plans are always worth the wait. Trusting in God’s timing means relinquishing control and acknowledging that He knows what’s best for us.
