DAY 6
01/18/2025
VERSES TO READ:
- 1 Samuel 17:1-58
- Ephesians 6:10-18
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:
- On your journey in 2025, you will certainly encounter a new or old “Goliath.” Will you have the courage to pick up five smooth stones, grab your sling and step out on faith wearing nothing but the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18)?
- What are three ideas you can implement every day to impact others in a substantial way that glorifies God?
- What are three more ideas that you can implement sometime in the next few weeks that are way out of your comfort zone? Pray for the courage to act in a new way that glorifies God.
PRAYER TO PRAY:
Heavenly Father, I love You, Lord! Thank You for giving me the power, ability and desire to inspire others to seek and develop a personal relationship with You. Thank You, LORD, for being all the armor I need to bravely battle and defeat any Goliath that presents itself in 2025. Lord, I simply pray that You use me in a powerful way, to glorify You and Your Kingdom. Please help me to see opportunities to help others overcome their fears, by leading them to You! I am ready to be a better servant to You, Lord, so please give me the courage to try new ways to help others find their way to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Do you consider yourself a person of influence or capable of impacting others in a substantial way? Even if you don’t feel like it, it’s likely you are and just don’t realize it. There is incredible power in shifting your daily routine to include at least one intentional Christ-centered action each day of your life. These things could be simple like mailing a card of encouragement to a friend who is hurting or taking a meal to an unsuspecting person. Something as easy as a random act of kindness, a friendly hello to a stranger, or a simple smile can be the difference for someone to see a little bit of Jesus in their day.
Most people have heard the story of David and Goliath, but I don’t think most people realize that God has granted each of us the exact same power as David. The Bible tells us Goliath was about 9 feet, 9 inches tall. The coat of scale armor he wore weighed 125 pounds and the point of his sword weighed 15 pounds! For forty days he taunted and challenged the Israelites morning and evening to send one person out to him for battle. Scripture tells us all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified!
Then David arrives at the front lines to check in on his brothers with some food and supplies, and while visiting with them he learns about Goliath. David is outraged by Goliath’s taunts and volunteers for the fight. Even David’s own brother called him conceited and wicked in his moment of courage. Due to his age and stature, David had to convince Saul of his ability and willingness to fight Goliath. Once David was outfitted in the armor, he found it too heavy and cumbersome, so David decided to remove it because he couldn’t move well with it on. I love
1 Samuel 17:45, when David tells Goliath that although Goliath comes with weapons, that David comes in the name of the Lord Almighty! David easily defeated Goliath with one swing of his slingshot.
We all have Goliaths in our lives and situations that terrify us, causing us to retreat on occasion. Always remember that God said, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10).” David was just one person but it’s obvious he knew this to be true and God gave him supernatural courage at the perfect time. God will do the exact same for you! When you seek His will in your life, He will give you the power and courage at exactly the right time. You have the power to be that one person for someone else, that agent of change not only in your own life, but in the lives of many others that He brings your way.
Work to be deliberate in your actions in 2025. Strive to be bold and consistent while glorifying God. Use your power to demonstrate what being a Christian is through acts of love, kindness, and prayers for others.
